Status Yellow rainfall warning issued for six counties

With things not looking amazing heading into the Bank Holiday weekend, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning to kick things off.

Officially unveiled shortly after 5am on Friday (25 October), the warning relates to six counties, namely:

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford.

If you’re in those areas you should anticipate pulses of heavy rain at times throughout Friday and overnight into Saturday, with some spot flooding.

Rainfall totals should accumulate between 25mm to 30mm.

The warning is in place from Friday at 8am until Saturday at 6am.

It arrives on the back of a fairly grim-sounding general forecast for the weekend, with sleet, spot flooding and a dip in temperatures all in the offing. Friday will bring widespread rain in the south of the country, which may turn to sleet in higher ground and result in spot flooding in places. Mist and fog will arrive in the evening, along with temperatures as low as zero degrees, resulting in frost and icy patches forming. Saturday should see less rain, but the temperatures at night are predicted to drop below freezing, while Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday will also ease off on the downpour, but things are expected to get colder again, with both nights expected to bring temperatures that will dip below zero.
