Bit of a dampener.
Six Irish counties have been issued a Status Yellow warning for rainfall as heavy downpours are expected to dampen the bank holiday weekend.
Met Éireann issued the weather warning on Saturday morning for counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
The alert warns of “heavy rain coupled with strong and gusty southerly winds, especially in exposed areas”.
Potential impacts include localised flooding, damage to temporary structures, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.
The warning is in place from 1pm on Sunday, August 4 until 1pm Monday, August 5.

Rain warning issued for six Irish counties as bank holiday downpours expected
The warning will be a dampener on Ireland’s bank holiday hopes after a week of high temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
Luckily for those not in the west of the country, Met Éireann’s national outlook predicts that it will stay mostly dry for Saturday in the south and southwest, with highest temperatures around 16C to 19C.

Saturday night
Mainly dry early tonight with some clear spells, however cloud will thicken with rain and drizzle developing in the west and north later.
The rain and drizzle will gradually extend eastwards overnight, but it will stay largely dry in the south. Lowest temperatures 12 to 14 degrees in mostly light or moderate southerly winds.
Sunday, August 4
A mostly cloudy start on Sunday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, the best of any bright or sunny spells in the south and southwest. A more persistent band of rain will develop in the west during the late morning and extend in to Ulster and parts of north Leinster during the afternoon.
The rain occasionally heavy in the west and north with localised flooding possible and the chance of a thundery burst.
Elsewhere should stay mainly dry apart from little patchy drizzle. Highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees with fresh and gusty southerly winds, strong or very strong near coasts.
Rain will continue in the west on Sunday night with the ongoing risk of local flooding there, there’ll be patchy drizzle elsewhere.
Lowest temperatures 14 to 16 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, easing from the west by morning.
Monday, August 5
The persistent, and at times heavy, rain will move eastwards during Bank Holiday Monday with the clearance following from the west in the afternoon.
Highest temperatures 18 to 22 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds, veering westerly and easing with the clearing rain.
Mainly dry with clear spells Monday night. Lowest temperatures 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate west to southwest breezes, a little fresher in the northwest.
