Not the sight you want to see on a trip to the French capital.

Ireland isn’t the only place that’s been in the grip of some miserable weather of late; in Paris, water levels in the Seine are about to reach their highest levels in over a century.

Authorities in the French capital say the water could rise to as high as 6.1 metres (20 feet) on Wednesday, which would be more than four metres above its usual height.

As a result, roads have flooded and public transport services have been disrupted, while another unfortunate by-product of the conditions has been the rise in the number of rats spotted roaming around the city.

According to Le Parisien, flooding and routine maintenance work have led to increased sightings of rodents, including in the video below, recorded outside the famous Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday night.

An orange weather alert, the second highest flood warning level, has been issued for Paris and for a number of areas throughout France while, according to the Guardian, the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay are ready to move works of art in storage if the situation gets any worse.
