REPORT: Rio police seek to seize the passport of FAI chief executive John Delaney

Tony Cuddihy

Police in Rio have named John Delaney among a number of OCI figures in a warrant following an interview with Pat Hickey.

The Irish Times is reporting that Brazilian police are seeking to seize the passport of FAI chief executive John Delaney in a probe into the OCI ticket controversy.

A judge has authorised the country’s police force to seize the passport of Delaney – the OCI’s vice-president – after he was named among six people on a warrant by the Brazilian authorities.

It follows an interview with former OCI president Pat Hickey, currently being held in a Rio prison with Kevin Mallon, who was picked up earlier this month in connection with the illegal sale of OCI tickets for the Olympic Games.

On the list with Delaney are acting OCI president William O’Brien and OCI officials Linda O’Reilly, Dermot Henihan, Kevin Kilty and Stephen Martin.

Delaney is not believed to be in Brazil; Henihan, Kilty and Martin are believed to have had their passports seized earlier on Sunday.

According to the Times, ‘the warrant was issued after Mr Hickey told police in an interview last Thursday that it was a decision by the whole OCI executive committee to nominate British company THG as its authorised ticket reseller for the Rio Olympics.’
