You may have had an inkling, but this is truly startling.

We all know that there is a lot of sugar in the coffees and hot chocolates we buy, but this is mad altogether.

Action on Sugar has conducted research on over one hundred hot beverages and the results are eye-opening.

Action on Sugar eh

The study found that Starbucks’ Hot Mulled Fruit – Grape with Chai, Orange and Cinnamon – Venti has an insane 25 teaspoons of sugar per serving.

Costa’s Chai Latte has 20 spoons of the good stuff, while the White Chocolate Mocha with Whipped Cream has 18 teaspoons of sugar per serving.

The signature Hot Chocolate in Starbucks includes 15 teaspoons, as does the KFC Mocha, while Caffe Nero’s Caramelatte has 13 teaspoons of sugar.

According to the research, of the 131 drinks analysed, 98% “would receive a ‘red’ (high) label for excessive levels of sugars”.

Overall, 35% of these hot drinks contain the same level or more sugar than CocaCola.
