Big changes in the next week.

In what will be a welcome step for both hotel and guest house owners and the public, 2 June will see accommodation services reopen with restricted services for overnight guests.

From 7 June, outdoor services can resume for restaurants and bars, although there will be certain restrictions in place which can be read in full here.

However, despite calls from the hospitality industry to allow restaurants reopen in line with hotels, indoor dining in restaurants must wait until 5 July.

Also from 7 June, outdoor sports matches will be allowed to resume while gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres can reopen for individual training only.

A maximum of 100 people can attend matches, rising to 200 at venues that can accommodate 5,000 or more.

This figure will rise from 5 July, to 200 at matches or 500 where there is a capacity of 5,000 or more, and the government has also announced that pilot events will take place.

If you are an unvaccinated household, you can have visitors from one other unvaccinated household inside your home, while the bonus also remains in place for vaccinated households.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said that a new goal to fully vaccinate 60% of adults by the end of July has been set by the Government.

Varadkar said that the increase in socialisation is less of a concern as opposed to the last major reopening in December due to the availability of vaccinations.

This comes as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Tony Holohan said he was “absolutely shocked” after what he described as a “major open air party” in Dublin city centre over the weekend.

Dr Holohan said he saw “enormous crowds” while driving past the city centre to collect someone from work on Saturday evening.

He said that the scenes are “what we do not need when we have made so much progress”.
