Gerry Conlon, one of the Guildford Four wrongly convicted of a pub bombing in London in 1974, has died at the age of 60.

Conlon had been ill for some time and passed away in his home off the Falls Road in Belfast.

Having spent 15 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit – along with Paul Hill, Paddy Armstrong and Carol Richardson – Conlon and his fellow convicted were released in 1989.

Conlon’s father Giuseppe was also wrongly convicted of playing a part in the IRA’s campaign of terror and died five years into his sentence in January 1980.

A film about the Guildford Four, ‘In The Name Of The Father,’ was released in 1993 with Daniel Day-Lewis playing the role of Gerry Conlon.
