Two women in critical condition after road traffic collision in Dundalk

Motorcycle van crash Limerick man dies

The incident took place on Sunday.

Two women are in a critical condition following a serious road traffic collision that took place in Louth on Sunday evening, 20 February.

The single-vehicle collision occurred on the N53 in Rassan, Dundalk at 8.30pm on Sunday when a car collided with a tree.

The driver, a male aged in his late teens, was not injured, nor was his front passenger; also a male in his late teens.

The passengers in the rear of the car – two women aged 23 and 21, respectively – received serious injuries during the incident.

The women were removed from the scene and brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Both remain in a critical condition as of Monday morning.

At the time of writing, the N53 road at Rassan has been closed off to traffic and local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct an examination of the scene on Monday morning.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued.

Any road users who were travelling on the N53 on Sunday night between 8pm and 9pm and who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
