Cyclist in serious condition following road traffic collision in Galway

A man in his 50s was struck by a car on Monday morning.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a road traffic collision that took place in Galway on Monday, 31 January.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.15am when a cyclist was struck by a car at Powers Cross in Ballyshrule, Portumna.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

His condition has been described as serious.

The road in question was initially closed to allow for a technical examination but has since reopened to traffic as of Monday afternoon.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

They are also appealing to any road users who may have video footage from the location between 6am and 6.30am to make this footage available to them.
