A nice bonus to get in the run-up to Christmas.

A 28-year-old Romanian man was the biggest winner as €150,000 was claimed from three scratch cards at National Lottery HQ on Wednesday.

The Romanian man, who bought his ticket in the Mace Store in Monard in Tipperary and is currently living in the Midlands, came to Ireland to find work six years ago and has been unemployed for the last two months.

On collecting his winnings at National Lottery HQ, he revealed that he plans to surprise his family with the good news on Christmas Day, by giving each of them a cheque for €10,000, which he plans to put into big gift boxes and place them under the Christmas tree.

He also plans to return to his homeland for a visit and to renovate the family home in Romania.

“I cannot wait to see their faces when they open the boxes on Christmas morning and see what is inside. I am going to say nothing about this win until then,” he said.

There were two further winners of a combined total of €50,000 from scratch cards in attendance at National Lottery HQ on Wednesday.

A woman from Louth claimed a cool €30,000 from an All Cash Tripler game purchased in the Post Office in Louth Village, while a mother from Monaghan picked up €20,000 on a Merry Money scratch card purchased from Eugene McCaughey’s shop in the South Mall Shopping Centre in Monaghan town.

This year’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle, which has a limited 500,000 tickets and a guaranteed top prize of €1,000,000, takes place on New Year’s Eve.

As well as the big jackpot, there is one prize of €250,000, four prizes of €100,000 and ten prizes of €10,000.
