WATCH: RTÉ News interrupted as somebody decides to browse Apple TV instead

What a pro.

One week into his new job as RTÉ’s Washington Correspondent, Brian O’Donovan has already proven himself more than capable of holding himself together as the world conspired to embarrass him.

Reporting on RTÉ’s Nine O’Clock News, O’Donovan was in the middle of discussing Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes speech and the rumour of her possible presidential campaign, when somebody’s mind wandered.

The screen behind him transitioned suddenly from the White House in Washington D.C. as its backdrop to the homepage of Apple TV.

Maybe it was all the talk of cinema that triggered the accident or a Matrix-like slip into the digital world (if you happen to subscribe to the theories of Jim Corr). Whatever the case, neither O’Donovan or anchor Sharon Ní Bheoláin lost face too much over the course of the segment.

Only at the very end, after thanking O’Donovan, did Ní Bheoláin say: “Viewers will forgive our own set malfunction there.”

Seriously though, if it was a Black Mirror-esque situation in which O’Donovan found himself being transported into another dimension live on television, he kept his cool. That’s a blunder you can put on the old CV.

For those who want to see the full clip, it is currently available on the RTÉ Player.
