Money, money, money.

There have been talks about how much the RTÉ staff earn since the salary figures were released from the BBC last week.

Figures that were released to Dublin Live reveal that Ireland’s national broadcaster pays it’s top 24 members of staff over €3.6 million each year.

The news comes after RTÉ announced in their financial review of 2016 that they made a loss of nearly €20 million.

The figures, which are correct up to 31 December 2015 show that 24 members of the RTÉ staff were in the €150,001 and €250,000 bracket which would cost the taxpayer between €3.6 million and €6 million.

Nearly 2,000 members of staff were working for RTÉ at the end of 2015 (1,978) and 77 of those were in the €100,001 to €150,000 salary band while 175 employees between €80,001 and €100,000.

There were 495 people in the €60,001 to €80,000 bracket, 847 employees earned between €40,001 to €60,000 and 360 members of staff fell into €0 to €40,000 salary band.

The national broadcaster also said that it would be releasing a publication which revealed the top ten earners in that period.

The call comes after there were concerns raised about equality of pay between genders. It was reported that RTÉ newsreader Sharon Ni Bheolain earned considerably less than her male co-anchor, Brian Dobson.
