RTÉ 2FM star Helen Galgey has finally told us how she really feels about her ex Seán Fitzgerald's appearance on Love Island.
Galgey, who co-hosts Weekend Breakfast on 2FM with Benny Bracken, previously dated the Galway GAA star turned Islander.
When Seán, better known to his fellow islanders as “Fitzy”, was announced as a contestant, Helen posted a stunned reaction video alongside the caption: “Solidarity with all my sisters finding out their ex is on Love Island today.”
However, despite Helen's initial shock, it appears there's no bad blood between her and Seán.
During one of her Q&A's on social media, Helen was asked if she would be commenting on Love Island while her ex is in the villa.
“I’ll be watching it like a hawk, but as far as commentating, no, I feel like enough people do that, and to be honest, I don’t consume any of that content,” she confessed.
Helen then went on to praise her ex, stating that she believes he's coming across very well on the reality show.
“I think Fitzy is so good, like the first episode I was like, ‘do something, do something’, but now I think he’s actually playing it smart,” she said.
“He’s lovely looking, and he doesn’t need to be doing all that, which I’m kind of glad.
“So it’s kind of cool that he’s just being chilled and laid back and, like, letting them come to him, so it’s he’s a full match.”
25-year-old Seán is currently coupled up with Lola, and as it's looking now, the pair is one of the stronger couples in the villa.
Fitzgerald stepped away from the Galway panel in recent weeks to pursue the opportunity, while also putting his teaching career on hold.
However, being the only Irishmen on the island, it was only a matter of time before someone butchered an impression of the Galwegian.
Unsurprisingly, it came during the first episode. Fellow islander Lorenzo started the day by saying, ‘Top of the mornin’ to ya,’ and it’s safe to say Seán wasn’t too pleased.
Lorenzo: "Top of the morning to ya."
Sean: "oh for f**k's sake!"
Ope: "Do people not say that in Ireland? They don't do they?"
Sean: "Nobody says it like."
Lorenzo: "Alright I'll cross that off the list."
Unfortunately, Lorenzo wasn't the only islander to make a mare of themselves impersonating the Irishman.
At the start of the night the couples were matched, Sean ended up with Lola and perhaps foolishly, he asked her to do an impression of his Irish accent. You can probably guess how it went.
Sean: "When is your birthday?"
Lola: "17th of March. St Patrick's Day, oh my god."
Sean: "Damn, you must love the Irish."
Lola: "They're alright."
Sean: "Do my accent there, I want to hear what you say."
Lola: "Alright let me lock in. 'Well I'll be focked, top of the mornin to ya'."
Sean: "That's not even it, that's Northern Ireland."
Lola: "Is that Northern Ireland? I tell people it's from Dublin whenever they ask."
Sean: "It's kind of like 'I'm from Donegal sir'. That is not Dublin."
Horrendous.
You have to get the feeling that this is only the start for the Galway inter-county star.
