RTÉ vow to investigate how this controversial tweet was sent from its official account

Tony Cuddihy

This was not a good look for the national broadcaster.

RTÉ have responded after a tweet – since deleted – was sent out this afternoon suggesting a man who claims to have been the victim of a sexual assault should ‘deal with it’.

The tweet was sent to Davey Reilly, who alleged over the weekend to The Times Ireland Edition that the comedian Al Porter sexually assaulted him on two separate occasions.

It came in the form of a gif, which was caught by Twitter user Duane Doogan before it was deleted more than half an hour after it had been sent.

This was the tweet in question…

RTÉ have since apologised and tweeted to Reilly that they are looking into how the tweet got sent out from one of its official accounts, presumably before changing the company passwords.
