Runaway cow dramatically escapes slaughterhouse to begin new life on a desert island

There’s a movie in this.

How are those New Year resolutions going for you?

As we enter the eighth week of the year, it’s as good a time as any to reflect on whether or not we’ve actually made those dramatic lifestyle changes we’d promised ourselves we’d definitely do this time.

Changes such as escaping a slaughterhouse to live on a desert island, for instance.

A unique enough challenge, admittedly, but that’s exactly what one brave and defiant cow did in southern Poland, ramming a fence and swimming to a nearby island while being led to a truck bound for an abattoir.

Following repeated failed attempts at re-capture, the runaway now enjoys sanctuary on the islands of Lake Nyskie, where locals are attempting to protect and ultimately save the “hero cow.”

One such advocate is politician Pawel Kukiz, a singer and actor who ran for president in Poland in 2015, finishing third in the first round of elections.

He notes in a Facebook post that the cow is “still on the battlefield” and thus he has decided “to do everything to (first) cause the cow to be delivered to a safe place and in the second stage, in reward for her attitude, give her a guarantee of expectancy retirement and natural death.”

A true story of fierce determination and the human bovine condition…
