Russian Embassy reportedly running out of fuel as companies refusing to deliver supplies

It is said the embassy has asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to intervene.

The Russian Embassy in Dublin is reportedly running out of fuel for heating and hot water after a number of Irish oil companies have refused to deliver it supplies.

According to the Irish Mirror, the embassy wrote to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on 22 March requesting it intervenes in the fuel shortage.

The paper reports that in the letter to the Department, the embassy explains that its current provider of fuel has refused to deliver diesel and that other providers of diesel in the Dublin area have also declined to do business with the embassy.

The embassy is also said to have told the DFA that it had a “very limited supply” of diesel that would only last until the end of the week, before asking the Department to intervene in what it described as a “clearly discriminatory case”.

In a statement to JOE, a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy said:

“The Embassy does not comment on its communications with third parties as a matter of policy.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is due to address Dáil Éireann and the Seanad on Wednesday, after accepting an invitation from the Ceann Comhairle.

While Russian Ambassador to Ireland Yury Filatov was invited to attend the event, he is reported to have declined.

Following the invasion of Ukraine, a number of protests have taken place outside the Russian Embassy in Dublin.

Last month, a truck reversed into its gates, breaking them in the process.
