It looks like there’s no end in sight.

Following weeks of disruption, ongoing negotiations and industrial action, Ryanair cabin crew in four countries are set to go ahead with their strike later this week.

As previously reported, cabin crews in Portugal, Italy, Spain and Belgium will stage a 24-hour strike on 25 July and a 24-hour strike in Portugal, Spain and Belgium on 26 July.

Flights to and from these countries will be grounded on both Wednesday and Thursday as unions demand a number of issues, including a fair wage, an end to agency work and contracts that coincide with local laws.

It is unclear as of yet which Irish flights will be affected.

As well as this, another strike that was announced by the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA) branch of Fórsa – which was revealed would go ahead on Tuesday 24 July – is also set to go ahead, adding to flight disruptions.

Industrial action was taken by a number of Ryanair pilots who, over the weekend, took to picketing outside their employer’s front door at their head office in north County Dublin.

Earlier this week, Ryanair issued a new statement on pilots’ strike, calling Fórsa – an Irish trade union for Public Service staff – “disgraceful.”

IALPA has also warned the airline that further strike days will be notified to them “in due course.”

So far, industrial action has affected some 4,000 customers flying between Ireland and the UK, with the airline calling the strike “unnecessary.”

Fórsa posted an article to their website back when strike action was originally threatened, claiming that they “have seen no evidence whatsoever on the part of Ryanair management to engage in meaningful negotiations with a view to reaching agreement on the issues they have presented to the company.

It is yet another example of a Ryanair view which is “it’s either our way or no way.
