If you’re flying Ryanair in the near future, take note.

A little over a month before it’s due to come into effect, Ryanair has served another reminder of its new policy regarding carry-on luggage customers can bring on flights.

Ryanair announced the impending introduction of the new policy earlier this year having served repeated warnings to customers in the wake of the existing rules being “repeatedly flouted” and resulting in boarding delays.

On Wednesday, Ryanair issued a reminder to customers on the new cabin bag policy (see below); it won’t affect customers flying with Ryanair over the Christmas period, but it will apply to all Ryanair customers from January 15 onwards.

Ryanair’s new cabin bag policy

  • Only Priority Boarding customers (including Plus, Flexi Plus & Family Plus) will be allowed to bring two carry-on bags on the aircraft*
  • All other (i.e. non-priority) customers will only be allowed to bring one smaller carry-on bag on board, while their second (bigger) wheelie bag will be placed in the hold (free of charge) at the boarding gate.
  • Ryanair’s new bags policy includes cuts to checked bag fees (from €35 to €25) and an increase in the check-in bag allowance from 15kg to 20kg to encourage more customers to book check-in bags and reduce the volume of carry-on bags.

*Priority Boarding can be purchased for €/£5 at the time of booking or added to a booking for €/£6 and is available up to one hour prior to scheduled departure.

Commenting on the introduction of the new policy, Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said: “We’re reminding our customers that from 15 January 2018, only Priority Boarding customers will be allowed to bring two carry-on bags on the aircraft.

“All other customers will be allowed to bring one smaller carry-on bag on board, while their second (bigger) wheelie bag will be placed in the hold (free of charge) at the boarding gate.

“This will speed up the boarding of flights and eliminate flight delays, alongside our new checked bag policy which offers our customers lower bag fees for a 33% increase in their checked bag allowance.”
