This sounds genuinely terrifying.

Reports of a school shooter drill in a school in Indiana, America, have gathered a lot of attention online due to the harrowing details of what the teachers went through.

According to Rolling Stone, “four teachers at a time were taken into a room, told to crouch down and were shot execution style with some sort of projectiles — resulting in injuries.”

They were also told not to tell other members of staff what was happening, to ensure that the responses made by the teachers were natural.

A series of tweets by the Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) went into further detail about the process, condemning the acts.

They explained that the teachers who were shot with “some sort of projectiles” ended up with welts, and that blood was drawn.

It was also said that the teachers waiting outside that “heard the screaming were brought into the room four at a time and the shooting process was repeated.”

The intention of the exercise is to stress the importance of the news that traditional duck-and-cover techniques are said to be largely useless against mass shooters, and that teachers should instead lead students in more active countermeasures to defend themselves from attack.

People online have criticised the nature of the drill, as have many who remain shocked that any such thing is necessary.
