A gunman has opened fire in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, shooting several people dead.
According to Ukrainian authorities, at least five people have been killed in the shooting on Saturday.
The police have killed the suspect at a supermarket in the Holosiivskyi district in the capital, Ihor Klymenko, the head of Ukraine’s interior ministry said.
After attempts to make contact with a negotiator failed, special forces entered the store where the gunman took people hostage and shot at police officers.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later said that five people have been killed in the shooting.
“We expect a swift investigation. Investigators of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are working. I have instructed the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Head of the National Police of Ukraine to make all verified information in this case available to the public”, Zelenskyy wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said that 15 people were injured in the shooting, including a child.
