Former Sinn Féin MP Barry McElduff will not face prosecution over a video he posted of himself balancing a loaf of Kingsmill bread on his head.

He faced heavy criticism after posting a video of himself balancing a loaf of Kingsmill-branded bread on his head on the anniversary of the Kingsmill massacre.

The Public Prosecution Service said on Wednesday it would not be prosecuting McElduff over the video due to insignificant evidence to provide a “reasonable prospect” of a successful prosecution.

McElduff was suspended for three months by Sinn Féin after he posted the video.

He resigned as West Tyrone MP in January after families of the 10 Protestant workmen shot dead by republican paramilitaries in 1976 expressed outrage at the video.

He maintains he was unaware that he posted the video on the 42nd anniversary of the attack and it was not meant as a reference the massacre and no offence was intended by the video.
