Emergency services are on the scene of what has been described as a “serious incident”.
One woman (40) has died, with another (20) in serious condition according to emergency services, following an incident in which they were struck by a train in County Sligo.
The incident occurred on a section of track at Ballsadare, Co. Sligo this afternoon.
Confirming that two women had been injured in the event, an Irish Rail spokesperson was unable to provide updates on their condition. However, emergency services have since revealed that one of the women has passed away.
It is thought that the two women had been walking the tracks when the collision involving the train occurred.

(Credit: Rolling News)The train, which was the 3.05pm Sligo to Connolly Station service, remains at the scene of the incident, with approximately 100 passengers still on board.
Due to the ongoing nature of the incident, the train will not be able to move and its’ passengers cannot be allowed off due to the fact it is not stopped at a station.
Irish Rail has provided an update on the onboard passengers though, ensuring that water is being provided for those unable to leave its’ carriages.
As a result of the serious incident and the time required to clear it, bus transfers will be operating between Boyle and Sligo in both directions until further notice.
