Snow and freezing temperatures expected this week as miserable run of weather continues

Judging by some of the weather we’ve been having of late, it’s hard to believe we’re nearly in April.

Some bright spells on Sunday offered some respite on what was a pretty bleak St. Patrick’s weekend in most of the country, but it would appear as if the break from the miserable weather was only temporary. According to Met Éireann, after a cool and breezy start to Monday, temperatures will drop significantly by Monday night, with snow a possibility in Atlantic coasts, particularly in areas of higher ground but also on lower levels too. Wintry showers will continue to affect the country on Tuesday, although most counties will experience heavy rain showers on another cold and breezy day when temperatures are likely to go no higher than 7 degrees. That cold weather is set to continue for the rest of the week, with temperatures dropping to as low as -4 in places on Tuesday night, when there will be severe frost under clear skies with little or no wind. Thankfully, the early forecast suggests next weekend will be dry and bright and a little milder than earlier in the week, although the nights will remain cold with an ongoing chance of frost.
