The guidelines are expected on Thursday.

It’s expected that new safety guidelines for nightclubs, live events, bars and restaurants will be published on Thursday ahead of Friday’s changing of restrictions.

Some of the expected changes include the return of queues at bar counters, provided they are socially distanced. However, table service will also continue in bars.

It expected that people will still be forbidden from congregating at bars when not ordering a drink.

It is also likely the guidelines will permit multiple bookings of tables in bars and restaurants.

The publishing of guidelines will be a welcome move from the Government for those in the night time hospitality sector.

Mass confusion followed Tuesday’s announcement, with many people speculating how the return of nightclubs can successfully unfold with protective measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing remaining in place.

“What traditionally happens in a nightclub will happen in a nightclub,” noted Taoiseach Micheál Martin, matter-of-factly, during the address.

“There are going to be anomalies and there are going to be contradictions,” added Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.

Industry figures have since called on the government to provide definitive clarity for their sector, especially when it comes to live gigs that have previously sold tickets for a standing-only event.
