Sound pilot buys 50 pizzas to feed passengers delayed on runway

The best damned pilot since Ted Striker.

The best damned pilot since Ted Striker.

As ways to spend time, being stuck in a plane on a runway waiting to take off is one of the worst. Any more than 10 minutes gets to be a pain so we can only imagine how the folks on a diverted Frontier Airlines flight from Washington to Denver on Monday night felt.

After a one hour delay in Washington the plane eventually took off but then ran into a thunderstorm so had to divert to Cheyenne, Wyoming to avoid the bad weather.

After an hour stuck there the passengers were fed up, as were the flight crew so the pilot showed some smarts to make everyone feel better.

‘The captain took his own initiative,’ a passenger called Logan Marie Torres told KDVR. ‘He said “Ladies and gentleman, Frontier Airlines is known for being one of the cheapest airlines in the US, but your captain is not cheap. I just ordered pizza for the entire plane.”’

Fifty pizzas were delivered to the plane, and dished out to all the starving passengers. Pictures of the generosity made it to Twitter.

After another hour the plane finally set off, arriving in Denver five hours behind schedule.
