Stabbing County Down man dies

A 28-year-old man has died from his injuries following a stabbing incident on Monday morning.

A 28-year-old man has died following a stabbing incident that occurred in Down on Monday, 3 January.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have formally launched a murder inquiry in relation to the fatal assault.

It is understood that the man was stabbed in the Church Street area of Downpatrick at approximately 11am on Monday.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A man aged in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at the time of writing.

“I would appeal to anyone with information which could assist in our investigation or who may have dash cam footage to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 497 of 03/01/22,” said Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell.
