You might or might not be happy to learn it has nothing to do with snow.

With half the country still showing visible effects from a heavy blanket of snow at the weekend, Met Éireann have issued yet another weather warning, with six counties in the west of Ireland affected this time around.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick, with gusts of up to 85 km/h expected in the affected counties.

The warning was issued on Tuesday afternoon and will come into effect at midday on Wednesday, remaining in place for the best part of two days until it expires at 10pm on Thursday night.

As well as strong winds, western parts of the country will also experience heavy rain showers on Tuesday night, when it will be cold with frost and the risk of ice as temperatures plunge to close to freezing.

The rest of the week promises to be “bitterly cold” throughout the country, with the risk of sleet and possibly snow on Thursday, before conditions become slightly milder at the weekend.

It’s been some few days on the weather front, even by Ireland’s standards.
