Man dies following fatal road traffic collision in Monaghan

The incident involved a steamroller.

A man has died following a fatal road traffic collision that took place in Monaghan on Monday, 23 May.

At approximately 9.45pm on Monday, Gardaí were alerted to the incident, which occurred in Shankhill, Smithboro and involved a road roller work vehicle.

A man aged in his 50s, the driver of the steam roller, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was later removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The scene was preserved to allow for a technical examination to be conducted by Gardaí forensic collision investigators. The examination has since been completed.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage – including dash-cam – to make it available to them.
