It is understood to be a weather-related incident.

Gardaí and emergency services are attending the scene of a "serious injury incident" in Donegal.

A Garda spokesperson said in a statement that the "ongoing" incident involves a male in Letterkenny and occurred shortly after 4.15pm on Friday, 3 October.

It is also understood to be a "weather-related incident", with Gardaí urging the public "to please listen to the weather-related warnings that are in place".

Having being named by the UK Met Office earlier this week, Storm Amy made landfall in Ireland on Friday, bringing “strong to near gale force” winds.

On Friday afternoon, Met Éireann published a Status Red warning for Donegal, which is scheduled to take effect from 4pm to 6pm that day.

“Storm Amy: Extremely strong and gusty southwest winds,” the alert reads.

“Impacts: Fallen trees, damage to power lines, dangerous travelling conditions, structural damage, wave overtopping.”

Amber and Orange wind warnings have also been issued by Met Éireann and the UK Met Office for the counties Antrim, Clare, Derry, Donegal, Fermanagh and Tyrone, as well as the entire province of Connacht.

The Met Éireann Orange alert reads: “Near gale force to gale force and very gusty southwest to west winds.

“Impacts: Fallen trees, damage to power lines and possible power outages, very difficult travelling conditions and possible wave overtopping.”

Several other Yellow rain and wind warnings have been issued for Ireland. You can read about these on Met Éireann’s website.

The Garda spokesperson said:

"At the moment in Co Donegal, there is a Status Red warning in place for extremely strong and gusty winds that are likely to lead to fallen trees; damage to power lines; dangerous travelling conditions; structural damage and wave overtopping.

"The Red warning will be in place until 6.00pm and will be followed by an Orange warning until 10.00pm.

"Status Orange warnings are in place for Connacht and Clare until 10.00pm for near gale force to gale force and very gusty winds.

"There is also a Status Yellow wind warning in place across Ireland until midnight, and people should be wary of difficult travelling conditions, debris and loose objects and fallen trees."
