“Strong wind conditions” cause flights to be diverted from Dublin Airport

The planes were forced to land at other airports.

Strong winds on Wednesday night (6 April) caused two flights to be diverted from Dublin Airport.

The airport’s operator, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), told JOE that both flights were with Ryanair, with one coming from Madrid and the other from Bristol.

After being diverted, both planes landed at different airports, where they refuelled before returning to Dublin.

“We can confirm that due to strong wind conditions last night, two aircraft were diverted from Dublin Airport,” a DAA spokesperson said.

“Shortly after 9pm, a Ryanair flight from Madrid was diverted to Shannon.

“The aircraft refuelled at Shannon and returned to Dublin and landed just before 1am.

“Just after 11.30pm, a second Ryanair flight from Bristol was diverted to Belfast International Airport.

“The aircraft refuelled at Belfast and returned to Dublin and landed just after 2.30am.”

Meanwhile, the DAA has published a five-point plan to combat long waits at security that have caused some passengers at Dublin Airport to miss their flights in recent weeks.

The plan has been in place for 10 days, with Dublin Airport saying that no passengers have missed a flight due to security queues since last Sunday.

However, with numbers set to increase over the coming months, passengers are being advised to arrive three-and-a-half hours before their departure time at minimum.
