Taxi driver shot in Drogheda

A taxi driver has been shot in Drogheda.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána have confirmed that a man was injured on Monday evening (13 January) after a number of shots were fired into a taxi.

The driver of the taxi was injured in the shooting and was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardaí have reported that the man is in his late 30s.

The incident occurred this evening at around 6.20pm, at the Bridge of Peace in the centre of Drogheda. The bridge is currently closed to traffic in both directions and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are now underway.
