Teenager dies following collision with a van in Laois

The incident took place on Saturday morning.

A teenager has died following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Laois on Saturday, 20 November.

The incident involving a van and a pedestrian took place at approximately 7.30am on the N80 at Clonsoghey.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his late teens, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at a later date.

The driver of a van was uninjured in the collision.

At the time of writing on Saturday morning, Gardaí have closed off the road so that a forensic examination of the area may take place.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued.

Gardaí are particularly keen to speak with any road users who were travelling on the N80 at Clonsoghey around the time of the incident, especially those who may have camera footage that they can make available.
