The fatal accident occurred late last night, Saturday, October 11.

A teenager has died following a single vehicle road collision in Cork last night.

The collision occurred shortly before 11.30pm last night at Scarteen Lower, Newmarket, when the vehicle left the road and collided with a ditch.

The male driver, aged in his late teens was fatally injured and a male passenger, also aged in his teens was uninjured.

The body of the male driver was removed from the scene to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a port-mortem examination is set to take place.

In a statement this morning, Gardaí said: "A full forensic collision investigation will be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI). The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

"Gardaí at Mallow Garda Station are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision to contact them. Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from that section of road during the relevant period are also asked to make it available to investigating officers."
