FINALLY.

It looks like the cold snap might finally be over after one of the longest winters Ireland has had in years.

Two storms and six months later, it appears that fine weather may be gracing the island again – with Met Éireann forecasting a dry day and highs of up to 15°C.

According to the national broadcaster, Wednesday will be a nice day all around, including prolonged spells of sunshine and high temperatures in the southwest.

“A misty and dull start of the day, but it will be a predominantly dry day. Some bright or sunny breaks will develop during the afternoon in the light east to northeast breezes.

“In the southwest a few showers will occur later in the afternoon. Highest temperatures ranging from 10 degrees in the east to 15 degrees in the west, but perhaps a degree or two higher in the southwest in any prolonged spells of sunshine.”

Wednesday night sees temperatures drop and showers become scattered.

“Showers may continue for a time in the southwest tonight with patchy drizzle and mist elsewhere. Lowest temperatures between 6 and 8 degrees in light breezes.”

However, Thursday looks like a repeat of Wednesday’s good fortune, with higher temperatures than what we’ve been used to and only a light rain forecast.

“Thursday will be mostly dry with just patches of light rain and drizzle again. In the afternoon a shower may develop in the west and southwest. It will stay rather cloudy throughout the day. Highest temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees in the east and northeast and between 11 and 15 degrees further west and south. Easterly winds will be light to moderate.”

The weekend sees a mix of dry weather and scattered showers, with sunny spells expected on both Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures of 13°C – 15°C are forecast with a strong southerly flow developing giving above normal temperatures for the time of year but with changeable weather.

Hey, beggars can’t be choosers. Three cheers for the end of winter!
