35 named defendants are being sued.

The Irish Times have reported that the parents of the six students killed and seven students injured in the Berkeley balcony collapse last June will be filing lawsuits in the state of California.

The cases are being taken against the various property and construction companies involved, including Blackrock and Greystar.

It has been reported that the same apartment balcony was showing danger signs of collapsing as far back as 2008, with the two above firms allegedly failing to respond.

Eoghan Culligan, Nick Schuster, Lorcán Miller, Ashley Donohoe, Olivia Burke and Eimear Walsh were killed when the balcony in number 405 in the Library Gardens apartment block collapsed during a 21st birthday party.

The parents of Aoife Beary (whose birthday was being celebrated on the night), Conor Flynn, Niall Murray, Hannah Waters, Clodagh Cogley, Sean Fahey and Jack Halpin, who were all injured in the tragedy, will also be filing lawsuits.
