The waiting time to take the driving test has increased
Those 'L' plates will be staying on a little bit longer.
The Irish Times have reported that the waiting time to take the driving test has risen to an average of 13 weeks.
A 10 week waiting period is the RSA's target average, but this has recently increased due to an upswing in the amount of young drivers that are financially able to apply for the test combined with staff shortages at the RSA and a public sector recruitment ban.
If you plan on taking your test in Dublin, you'll also have to wait a little bit longer than the rest of the country because it's reported that the demand is significantly higher.
According to the RSA website, "The driving test average waiting times by test centre are currently under review and therefore unavailable at present. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Demand for driving tests nationally is currently high and customers can expect to wait on average 13 weeks for a driving test."
