“A sad day for the parish indeed.”
TXFM goes off the air on Wednesday, with many people paying tribute to the alternative music station, which took over the airwaves from Phantom FM just two years ago.
“The closure of TXFM is a devastating blow to the domestic music industry,” Dave Reid, founder of the Choice Music Prize, told the Irish Independent.
“The support and passion displayed by DJ’s & personnel station wide for Irish music was second to none.”
There was a very special moment on Tuesday when broadcaster Claire Beck’s favourite artist, John Grant, surprised her on her penultimate day.
The love for the Dublin-based station is palpable.
Goodbye @TXFMDublin ! Fantastic people, your enthusiasm 4music is infectious. Having TXFM on made the most mundane tasks a pleasure.

I can't be the only one desperately wishing for a movie style ending where it's saved at the 11th hour! #txfm https://t.co/ihj3sfWWC3

TXFM introduced me to all tvvins, the pixies, and so many other amazing artists. Especially Irish musicians. Y must TXFM go ?

#txfm playing Pixies before 10 o clock on a Wednesday. This is why I'll miss it. A sad day for the Parish indeed.
