These latest Luas strikes are set to cause chaos on St. Patrick’s Day

Paddy's Day plans for Dubliners could be seriously disrupted.

Luas employees are adding two more days to their recent strike action, including March 8 and St. Patrick's Day. RTÉ has broken the news, with staff looking for pay increases between 8 - 53%; a figure seen as too high by their employer, Transdev.

The fallout is set to seriously impact staff and customers, with 90,000 passengers having already been disrupted in last Thursday and Friday's strikes, with similar numbers anticipated again for this Thursday and Friday's strike action. Meanwhile, staff are being deducted pay for each strike day, as well as their annual bonus; which equates to 6.5% of their overall salary, while the company itself is fined €100,00 for each day of the strike. The latest strike announcement for Paddy's Day and March 8 will impact thousands more people, especially on St. Patrick's Day. As it stands, there doesn't look to be a solution on the horizon, as SIPTU and management are too far apart in their current expectations.
