The PSNI have confirmed that another serious incident is ongoing in Derry tonight.

“Folks, we are responding to a report of an abandoned vehicle on the Northland Road close to the Glenbank Road junction,” the Derry branch of the PSNI wrote on Twitter. They further advised people to stay away from the area.

Home have been evacuated and the nearby Glen Development Initiative has been opened as a “rest area.”

The measures follow two earlier incidents today. At Southway this afternoon, a delivery driver’s vehicle was hijacked by four masked men, one of them reported to have had a gun. This morning, homes in the Circular Road area were evacuated after a vehicle was hijacked at around 11.30pm.

According to local journalist Leona O’Neill, the abandoned vehicle has been left near a school.

According to a separate tweet on the Police Service of Northern Ireland official Twitter page: “Road closures are in place on the Springfield Road and Lanark Way in north Belfast due to the discovery of a suspicious object. There are no further details at present.”

The incidents follow an explosion near a Derry courthouse on Saturday night, which has seen four individuals placed under arrested.
