This weekend's weather forecast may make you want to stay in bed

Our previous mixture of unsettled weather is set to be replaced by a period of settled, terrible weather...

It's our job to break you the good and the bad news, so you may be better off staying in bed today because the weekend's weather forecast is not predicting sunny skies and rising temperatures.

Temperatures dropped below 0 degrees in some places last night which led to snow in some parts of the country.

According to Met Éireann, Saturday will be a cold and showery day with showers initially appearing along the coast.

The morning will have some sunny periods but these will fade in the afternoon to be replaced by widespread heavy showers with a risk of hail and thunderstorms on higher ground.

Bed might be the best option for Saturday...

Saturday night will be mostly dry but there will be widespread frost with temperatures between -2 and 2 degrees.

Although it's bad news on Sunday if you're from the southern parts of Ireland with Met Éireann revealing that heavy rain will spread across Munster and south-Leinster early Sunday morning, but for the rest of the country the day will remain dry.

It will continue to rain heavily in the south of the country for most of the day.
