Three Irish people have been killed and one left seriously injured following a motorway crash in Spain.
Two vehicles collided near Malaga early yesterday morning (June 28), sending one vehicle down an embankment off the A-7 motorway.
The crash claimed the lives of two women and one man, while one other person has been left seriously injured.
It is understood that all four are from Mullingar.
This morning (Monday, June 29), a spokesman for Guardia Civil traffic HQ said: “Like the three people who died the driver is also an Irish national, a man aged 31.
“He is in hospital and his condition is very serious.”
Emergency services, including firefighters and local police, attended the scene of the crash, and the Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the tragic incident.
It further added that it is providing consular assistance to the victims' families.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Fianna Fáil TD for Longford-Westmeath Robert Troy said he has spoken to the families.
"It's absolutely devastating news. Unfortunately I know one of the families quite well, I spoke to them yesterday. Needless to say, they’re absolutely devastated," he said.
