Two out, two in.

Today FM have announced changes to its afternoon and evening programming schedule.

From September onwards, Mairead Ronan will present her very own daytime show from 12-2pm. Elsewhere, Ed Smith is set to present his own nightly music show weekdays from 7pm.

In terms of the departures, presenter Muireann O’Connell said that she has been “fired” from the station with Ronan replacing her.

O’Connell said that the situation is “embarrassing and a bit sad.”

However, she also wished Ronan well in her new presenting job, saying she “will be great”.

Commenting on her new show, Ronan said: “It’s hard to put into words how thrilled I am going back to Today FM with my own show. This was always a dream of mine, ever since I was making coffee and posting prizes at the very start of my radio career. After two very busy years away it now feels like I’m going home. I can’t wait to get started.”

In a change to the station’s evening programming, Ed Smith is to take his weekend Ed’s Songs of Praise show to a weekday slot.

The show is to be on nightly from 7pm, replacing Louise Duffy’s Lost in Music from mid-August onwards.

Speaking about the new show, Smith said: “I am absolutely delighted and excited to be getting this opportunity to do what I love the most. This will be the listeners’ show as much as it is mine, and they’ll play a huge part in what comes out of their speakers every evening. From banging tunes to the very best in Irish music, this show will have it all.”
