Four different models are affected by the recall.
Toyota is carrying out a voluntary recall of some of its Auris, Avensis, Rav4, and Verso passenger vehicles due to an issue with cooling, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has revealed.
The affected vehicles were produced over three years between March 2015 and May 2018.
Within the affected vehicles there is a possibility that the exhaust gas recirculation cooler (EGR cooler) could develop an internal coolant leak, as a result of insufficient EGR cooler durability, according to a statement on the CCPC’s website.
If this were to occur, through continuous usage, the coolant could mix with the soot and in combination with high temperatures – normally present in the EGR module – could create smoldering deposits inside the EGR cooler and intake manifold.
This may then lead to localised thermal damage in the intake system, which might cause engine power reduction.
In very rare cases, this could also lead to the melting of the intake manifold, with the CCPC saying it cannot exclude a fire risk.
There are approximately 7,546 affected vehicles in the Republic of Ireland.
The CCPC says Toyota Ireland will directly contact all affected customers by post advising them to make an appointment with their local authorised repairer where any necessary repairs or replacements of parts will be carried out.
