Toyota are recalling thousands of cars in Ireland over a safety issue

Alan Loughnane

Are you affected?

Toyota Ireland are carrying out a voluntary recall of 6,577 vehicles on the Irish market.

The affected models are the Toyota Avensis, Corolla, Avensis Verso, Yaris and SC430 and they were manufactured between February 2001 and April 2006.

The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger air bag inflators which contain a non-desiccated, phase stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant.

Under certain conditions, if the inflator were to suffer a rupture, it may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants.

So what do you do if you’re affected?

Toyota Ireland will be writing directly to those customers involved in this recall to arrange to have the airbag inspected and replaced.

The letter will also advise consumers affected by this voluntary recall to contact their nearest Toyota Dealer/Authorised Repairer who will arrange to do the repair free of charge.

Or else you can contact Toyota Ireland on 01 419 0222.
