Tributes have poured in following the naming of a cyclist who died following an incident in Roscommon.
Marcus Phelan of Churchtown, Dublin and formerly Courtown, Co. Wexford, died on Sunday, September 15,
The body of the man in his 50's was discovered at around 2am at Cloonchambers, Castlerea.
Mr Phelan was described as a 'kind and gentle soul' and an 'absolute gentleman' by family and friends, following his death.
Mr Phelan's death notice reads that he is the loving husband of Catriona, and devoted dad to Liam, Anna, Emily and Ayla.
"Sadly missed by his family, mother Anne, father Pat, siblings Caroline, Aisling, Niall, Michelle and Julianne and their partners Sinead, Kevin and Marcus A., his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends," the notice continues.
Many tributes were paid to the man, with one saying: "He was a gentleman, a hardworking and diligent colleague, but also a dependable friend and always good company. May Marcus rest in peace."
Another said: "Sincerest condolences to Caitriona, Liam, Anna, Emily & Ayla. Marcus and I worked together in FSAI. He was a great colleague, but more importantly, he was a kind and gentle soul. He always spoke with such pride of his family and his love for you all radiated from him. May he rest in peace."
A third added: "My sincere condolences to the Phelan family on the terribly sad passing of Marcus. He was an absolute gentleman and highly respected by all who knew and worked with him. May his gentle soul rest in peace."
A Quaker Meeting for Worship to give thanks for the life of Marcus will be held in Churchtown Friends Meeting House, 82, Lwr. Churchtown Road, at 2pm on Thursday, September 19.
