Tributes pour in as Donegal crash victims named locally as cousins

"Our hearts are sore today."

Derry natives Kían and Eoghán Dawson died after the car they were travelling in struck a wall at Cross in Quigley's Point in Donegal on Saturday night.

Gardaí confirmed that 16-year-old Kían died at the scene while Eoghán, 20, died from his injuries on Tuesday at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses and road users that were travelling in the area to come forward.

Kían's football club, Don Boscos in Derry, posted on social media following the news, saying: "Our hearts are sore today.

"We awoke this morning to the sad news that young Kian Dawson, a player in our 2007 group since the age of 5, had sadly passed after a road traffic accident last night in Donegal."

The statement continued by saying that Kían and his father Emmett were an "integral part of our club for many years".

"Kian was the most genuine, well mannered and unassuming young lad you could meet.

"He was a credit to Don Boscos but more importantly to his mum and dad, Fiona and Emmett."

Don Boscos added that club activities were called off for the week as a mark of respect.

SDLP councillor Catherine McDaid also posted online, saying: "I, like I’m sure the entire city is, just devastated to hear about the two young men that sadly passed away as a result of Saturday’s accident.

A GoFundMe has since been launched by a family member to aid with the funeral costs.

The fundraiser page reads: "A quick trip to their favourite place soon turned into a living nightmare.

"Two beautiful cousins Eoghán (20) and Kian (16) were involved in a fatal road traffic accident and will now remain forever young."
