Turns out McGowan violated one of Twitter’s rules.

The actress announced on her Instagram account on Wednesday night that Twitter had suspended her account without warning for 12 hours.

Many immediately assumed that her suspension was in direct relation to her recent allegations against Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of decades of sexual harassment and assault by a number of actresses, models and assistants, which resulted from him being removed from his own production company.

In the hours following McGowan’s account suspension, anger continued to build over Twitter’s actions, and the company announced on Thursday evening why they had taken those actions:

At the time of writing, Rose McGowan’s Twitter account has been un-suspended.
