These are the fourth and fifth arrests in this ongoing investigation.

Gardaí attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) arrested two men, aged in their 40s and 60s, on Friday as part of an ongoing bribery and fraud investigation.

It comes after Gardaí with the GNECB last month arrested a male in his 40s after a report was made by his former employer.

The man was reported by his former place of work on suspicion of falsifying records, deceiving applicants into believing he had processed their financial applications and using the personal details of current employees without their authorisation.

Gardaí said at the time the man had attempted to destroy evidence of this criminal activity and that corrupt payments, totalling €17,000, were also made in the form of bribes to conceal his actions.

On Friday, meanwhile, Gardaí said in a statement that two more men were arrested as part of their investigation for offences contrary to Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 (conspiracy to commit serious offences namely bribery and perverting the course of justice).

The two men are detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Terenure Garda Station in Dublin.

Gardaí have said these are the fourth and fifth arrests in this ongoing investigation.
