Two ATMs stolen in Dundalk overnight

Three arrests have been made.

Two ATMs were stolen from banks in the main street area of Dundalk in the early hours of Saturday morning (4 April).

Gardaí observed plant machinery and other vehicles travelling in convoy in the Dundalk area and responded immediately.

At the same time, “to hinder Gardaí’s response”, two vehicles were set alight outside both entrances to Dundalk Garda Station.

A Volkswagen Amorak SUV and a 2014 registered Mercedes red saloon car left the scene with the two ATMs in a trailer.

The raiders were intercepted by members of the Garda Armed Support Unit and, following a traffic pursuit, crossed the border into Northern Ireland.

It is understood the raiders used a pick-up truck with a trailer to transport the cash machines.

Three men were later arrested in Armagh and the two ATMs were recovered.

Gardaí and the PSNI are working closely on the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this investigation to contact them at Dundalk Garda Station on 042 2938 8400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
