An image of the two Irish people arrested was also released.
Two Irish people have been arrested in the US in relation to a “maritime smuggling event”, with federal agents also seizing a gun and $32,000.
Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar, who is in charge of the US Border Patrol’s Miami sector, revealed on Twitter that the arrests were made earlier this week.
Aventura Police, the Border Patrol marine unit and the US Department of Homeland Security intercepted a “maritime smuggling event” near the city of Miami in Florida.
Following the operation, two people from Ireland and six from the United Kingdom were arrested.
Meanwhile, another person was also arrested but was only described as a “suspected smuggler”.
Accompanying his Twitter post, Slosar released an image appearing to show the nine people arrested with their faces blurred.
He added that the maritime smuggling event is now under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.
